David Cameron was 'perfect B&B guest.'

Conservative leader David Cameron sent a clear message to his extravagant MP's when he shunned the Lake District's most expensive hotels to stay in a family run 'boutique' hotel during a visit to the area.

Mr Cameron who was in Cumbria last week on a whistle-stop pre election tour, booked in at the Woodlands Hotel, Windermere, where you can get a superior double room from 90 per night.

The Tory leader who has been a vociferous in his condemnation of MP's profligate second home allowance claims, spent a night in the 35-bed hotel, run by Alan and Sarah Ayres. He later described the Woodlands as "an excellent B&B."

Mr Ayres said:  I received a call a couple of weeks ago from the Conservative party HQ, to book rooms for a party of four - but there was no mention of who it was for. Then one hour before he was due to arrive, we received a call from his office to say Mr Cameron was one of the party.

" It's marvellous he chose to stay in our small hotel, preferring the friendly, personal approach. My wife, Sarah and I were thrilled to see how down to earth David Cameron is - after enjoying a morning run, he delighted our other guests by chatting to them over breakfast. He really was the perfect guest, there was no edge to him and everyone felt at ease. In the evening, he slipped out to dine at Postillion - an intimate, little restaurant in Bowness-on-Windermere. The following day David and his party left for Keswick."

Gail Bartolf, spokesperson for the Lakes Hospitality Association says:
"We very much welcome David Cameron's support of small, Windermere businesses.  Our members, Alan and Sarah Ayres, run a highly successful, AA five star luxury boutique hotel with 15 bedrooms.  They will have given an excellent friendly and personal service, which all our members pride themselves on. We have over 350 members, who all operate to a very high standard, whether it's a tiny B&B or a large luxury Hotel.
